CLIENT: Rinard Orchid Greenhouse, BSU

OVERVIEW: Just over 6.8 million community-resident Americans use assistive devices to help them with mobility. This group comprises 1.7 million wheelchair or scooter riders. For mobility devices to be used effectively, the environments in which they are used must be accessible.

RESULTS:

The Rinard Orchid Greenhouse at Ball State currently is not fully accessible to wheelchair users. Throughout the greenhouse, signage is in place beside the appropriate plants in order to create a more engaging experience for visitors. Some of these signs are out of view or reach for those that may be confined to a wheelchair. In addition, various aisleways to parts of the green house are not able to be accessed due to their width.
